FULL PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED SOON! 14th January 2015.
What a 2014 festival!
Thank you to all the fantastic musicians that played inside and outside the festival venues - you were incredible, and a huge thank you to all of the festival attendees that supported us throughout the weekend - you really made the first festival a huge success, we couldn't have done this without your support.
Thank you too for all of the Festival team of volunteers, who gave so much time and energy into the months preparing for this, and working tirelessly in the hottest weekend of the year!
A huge thank you to the superb staff in our main venues, The Dylan Thomas Centre, The Dylan Thomas Theatre, and The National Waterfront Museum - and to all of our fringe venues, you were all above and beyond expectations.
Look out for the dates for next years festival dates, released very soon!
Some comments received from our festival visitors:
"Hi Dave, what a cracking weekend . You and the team need a medal for all the hard work and effort you all put into the jazz festival , fantastic work and long may it continue, we loved it ....
Cheers, Martyn, Llandrindod Wells.
"Hi Dave, just to say thanks for the gig, which i thoroughly enjoyed, and for the accommodation. Also thought your son tom played superbly. Your a lucky Dad!
All the best,
Just got home from the festival. Tried to catch you today but you were obviously busy. Just wanted to say how brilliant Viv and I thought it all was. We saw Alan Barnes and Bruce Adams, Eddie Palmer, Jeff Lorber's Fusion, Nigel Hitchcock, Claire Martin and a few of the fringe events.
It all blew the socks off Brecon (which I've been to for 20 years) for a fraction of the price and matched many things I've seen in Ronnie Scotts, and even The Blue Note in New York!
On a personal note it was wonderful to see top class jazz in the city I'm from and love. It looked like a festival that had been going for years. Be proud and please do it again next year. I hope you felt that it was worth all the hard work."
Cheers. Ted John
"Hi Dave and the festival team,
Just thought I’d drop you a line and let you know what a great weekend I’ve had.
The Alan Barnes workshop was really good – brilliant sax player!
I saw some of the Albino Frogs set and they went down a storm.
Simon Spillet (and of course the Dave Cottle trio) were brilliant. I’ve never seen him before, reminded me a bit of Ronnie Scott.
The atmosphere in the free venues around the marina was amazing and the weather couldn’t have been better.
Looking forward to next year already!"
What an absolutely monster weekend at the the swansea international jazz festival. We couldnt have asked for better.all around the major venues and the fringe venues there was a fantastic buzz with an amazing ampunt of talent on show... Congratulations to Dave Cottle and all his team for their exemplary work un setting up and running a wonderful festival with a vast array of talent on show. You should all be very proud of yourselves. On behalf of the albino frogs It was a priviledge to be part of it."
My wife & I congratulate you all for a most enjoyable & well organised SIJF. We travelled down from West Wales for the weekend and were very impressed by the quality of the many musicians. A special thanks to Dave Cottle. He was everywhere A true jazz-fest, Thank you all so much."
Regards, Gary Smith.
"Dear Swansea International Jazz Festival,
I'm a long time fan of the old style Brecon festival and occasional visitor to Swansea Jazzland.
When this was announced I had some thoughts that you might have been too ambitious.
However, it was great!
The paid venues and concerts were high quality, thanks for introducing me to 'Tipitina', and the "free" fringe gigs were great, with some old friends like the Jones (O'Connor) band in the old museum. Of course the weather helped but there was a good feeling about the area and everyone seemed to be enjoying it. I hope it worked financially and you are able to carry on next year, you have justified some more national publicity.
I am writing to congratulate all concerned in promoting the Jazz Festival; it was a very enjoyable occasion.
Looking forward to next years event!!"
I expect you are recovering after the weekend.
What a fantastic weekend of Jazz and the best weather ever! Just wanted to say thank you and the two sessions with Afternoon in Paris and Sean Pierce were absolutely superb.
Well done, I think one of the best events in Swansea and I think SA1 was a great location.
Hope to see you soon."
p.s. great picture in Evening Post today!!
